1 / Sport and motivation: two types of personalities to take into account
While some people have an intrinsic motivation capacity, others display an extrinsic motivation. The difference ? The so-called intrinsic motivation works independently. Clearly, if you are one of the elected officials, your need for success, your will and your determination embody sufficient engines not to miss any cross training or aquabiking session. Conversely, if you are more of an extrinsic type, you need an external influence to draw the motivation necessary for your 3 weekly sports sessions. Flat: there are obviously mixed forms which explain a tenacious motivation for months followed by periods during which an external source of motivation is essential. 2 / Set goals
Losing weight, increasing muscle mass, feeling fitter ... In terms of fitness and bodybuilding, goals are a solid basis for motivation. However, be careful to define them in moderation so as not to set the bar too high and thus risk disgusting indoor sport. The good idea: to operate with short-term objectives (finalize your registration in a fitness club, test your first Pilates class, etc.) and long-term objectives (lose 10 pounds, go after an endurance test, etc.). And finally, choose activities (dance, yoga, muscle building, cardio training…) that we really like. Pleasure indeed embodies one of the most powerful engines!
3 / Play sports with music
Studies prove it. A good playlist can boost performance. Besides, it is no coincidence that the choreographed fitness classes (Bodypump ™, Grit ™, RPM ™…) take place in music. In terms of motivation, the prospect of listening to a sound that we like and that energizes us is effective. Be careful however to adapt the tempo to the type of effort made. We start soft to warm up before moving on to more punchy sounds during cardio training.
4 / Find a sports partner
Feeling awaited for your aqua aerobics class or weight training session can change everything. And we're not talking about the performance booster side. For two or more, the sports session benefits from the group effect which pushes to surpass oneself. Unstoppable!
